Rover 600 Key Fob FAQ

Diagram of the Rover 600 key fob and immobiliser system

Rover 600

These FAQs apply to vehicles fitted with the Valeo key fob. Such vehicles include:

The Rover 600 Series uses a transponder chip in the top of the key for the immobiliser system.

No record of this transponder chip is kept

At Remote key ltd we can clone your working key to produce you a spare.

If you lose all your keys you will need a new immobiliser ECU at great cost, so it is important to have a spare key made while you can.

Unlike all the other Rover systems, the Rover 600 remote key fob only operates the central locking and the alarm system. The central locking and alarm control box can be removed easily and sent to us for replacement remote key fobs and the vehicle can still be driven. The alarm and central locking will not work while the box is removed.

Has your key fob stopped working?

Rover 600 infrared type key fob

The Rover 600 series use the Valeo remote key fob, this has 2 types: infrared and the radio type.

At Remote key Ltd we can only supply the Radio type key fobs. The infrared type has an eye in the front of the remote key fob as shown in the picture on the right.

If the key fob fails to work check the battery. If the little red/green light shows on the key fob, the key fob is still probably working OK but it has lost synchronisation. Once this happens the key fob cannot be re-synchronised and a new key fob will required.

If all the above fails you DO NOT have the EKA code facility. For more information, see our EKA code section.

The Rover 600 remote key fob uses a rolling/moving code system. When you press the key fob, the code changes every time, and the alarm box in your vehicle also changes its code to match with the key fob. This is a great antitheft system but sometimes the key fob and alarm box codes do not match and the system will not operate.

The most common cause for this is pressing the buttons on the key fob away from the vehicle, the key fob code moves on but the alarm box on the vehicle does not, so the two codes do not match.

!!Do not press the buttons on the key fob away from the vehicle!!

Abbreviations

The Rover 600 immobiliser system can have up to 4 key fobs programmed.

Range/Distance Problems

Does you key fob not operate very far from your vehicle?

This can be caused by many factors. As we use more wireless electronic products, the radio waves interfere with each other and this is the most common problem when your remote key fob loses its range from your vehicle.

Remember!!!
Your Rover 600 relies on the remote key fob to start, get a spare. The remote key fobs get a hard life, they get dropped, damp, wet, hot, cold, we sit on them, when the remote will not operate, the problem will probably be the remote key fob.
